HLS Technologies, Inc. has preformed a study consisting of 17 scenarios for common SQL changes. Each scenario was preformed on the same machine, which was running Z/OS V1R5. The data structures, data and DB2 Buffer setups were the same for each scenario across V6, V7, and V8. This presentation contrasts the choices made by the DB2 Optimizer across these Versions of DB2. Some choices are surprising, and some are not, while most are concerns that need to be considered when migrating between Versions of DB2.
The presentation will begin with a few notes on current migration issues and surprises that have come from our consulting engagements.
A detailed PDF is available from the HLS Technologies, Inc. website, as are the DBRMs, data, data structures and instructions for you to recreate your own test of our 17 scenarios.
