Companies have been running DB2 for over 15 years now. Through the years, customers have asked the same question: "How do you make DB2 run faster?" In the beginning, tuning DB2 was left to the system programmers. Then it spread to the DBAs. Now, for optimal performance, everyone must be involved - from management to DBA to application programmer. This presentation discusses some of the fundamentals of DB2 performance tuning with a different approach. The best DBA and the newest DB2 application programmer will gain new skill from this presentation. Everything from pools to locking, bind to logging, and commit processing to SQL will be covered. EXPLAIN is also covered briefly, with a look at some of the performance improvements and tools that were made available in the most current version of DB2 UDB for OS/390.
About the Speaker - Willie Favero
Willie Favero is a principal consultant at BMC Software. He has worked with database
software for more than 26 years, starting with IMS. For the last 16 years, he has worked
with all aspects of DB2. Willie has authored numerous articles, contributed to several of
IBM®'s Redbooks and acted as a technical editor on dozens of database, object-oriented,
programming, and data warehouse books. He is a highly sought after presenter at IDUG
(North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific), GUIDE, SHARE, local and international DB2 User
Groups and the IBM DB2 Technical Conference.
